2016 MADISON SOFTBALL  REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. Registration closes on Sunday January 10, 2016.

Madison Softball welcomes players currently attending Kindergarten through 8th grade in the Madison or Harding School Districts or enrolled at St. Vincent’s. All skill levels are welcome!  Registration is $75 for players in K, 1st and 2nd grades; $90 for players in grades 3-8. There is a family maximum of $200. In addition there is a $20 field use per player. This fee is collected on behalf of the Madison Borough. The season begins on April 11 and ends in early June.

Spring training@Drew clinic

Registration for our 14th Annual Spring Training @ Drew Clinics is also open for interested players in grades 3-8. These clinics take place at Drew University on Sundays 1/31, 2/7 and 2/21 from 11 AM to 1 PM. Players work with coaches and Drew University softball players on softball fundamentals. It’s a great way to get ready for the regular season. It’s also a great Christmas gift for the softball player in your family.

Coaches wanted!

We are ALWAYS looking for coaches both Head and Assistant, for all of our softball divisions.  There is no better way to spend a spring day than on a softball field with your daughter and her friends.  If you can help, please let us know when completing your daughter's registration.  We will make final head-coaching assignments by late January so that all team draft can be finished by mid-February.  Assistant coaches will be assigned during the team draft.  Not sure you have the time or talent?  Feel free to contact anyone on our board for more details.

Madison softball offers the following grade specific programs.

The Kinder-Ball program is for girls in kindergarten and involves fun 60-minute sessions at the MRC (Madison Recreation Complex), on Saturday mornings, 9-10am, May through June.  During these clinics, the girls are introduced to the basics of softball (throwing, hitting, catching, running) in a positive environment, with no division into formal team assignments.  We use a combination of board members and experienced coaches alongside the older girls from our high school and recreational programs to teach skills the right way while hopefully instilling a love for the game of softball.  This is also an excellent way to get involved as a coach as you will be working alongside our experienced coaches during the one-hour that you'd likely be watching your daughter anyway.  To be eligible, players must be enrolled in Kindergarten during this fall/spring. If you have any specific questions, contact the Kinder Division Manager, Dawn Neville, at dawn_neville@yahoo.com

ROOKIE DIVISION: Grades 1 and 2

Rookie division is a coach pitch league. This division will prepare players to take the next step as they hit live pitching as well as improve their defense by playing different positions in the field. Games are played at the MRC one evening and Saturday mornings.

 GRADE 3/4.

Our grade 3/4 division introduces players to pitching, leading, sliding and stealing. Coaches work hard to help players master all fundamental softball skills. There are no walks in this division. Coaches take over from the pitcher after ball 4 and batters must either put the ball in play or strike out. Stealing of third base and the concept of leaving on the pitch is introduced. Innings are capped at five runs.

Grade 5/6

Our grade 5/6 division gives players the opportunity for competition with neighboring communities. There is no more coach pitch. Coaches continue to help players master all fundamental softball skills as well as the introduction of more advanced game strategies. The season finishes with seeded playoffs across all towns leading to a grand champion.

Grade 7/8

Our grade 7/8 division continues the competition with neighboring communities. Rules are as close as possible to high school softball to prepare players to continue with the game as they when they reach high school. Stealing of all bases as well as the dropped third strike is now a part of the game. The season finishes with seeded playoffs across all towns leading to a grand champion.

Madison Softball offers additional training/learning opportunities for players throughout the winter/spring. Complete details will be sent via email once registration closes.  You can expect information about Pitching Clinics, Hitting and fielding clinics with Madison High School Coaching Staff as well as details about our spring and summer Travel Softball Opportunities.

If the cost of our softball programs presents a challenge to your family’s budget, please send a note to our president Rob Welter, rwelter@dtrmed.com to discuss our scholarship program.
